A Fresh Perspective On Change

Change can be scary, but when you’re sick and tired of being stuck in the same old place, the idea of “anything but this” sounds attractive.  And a fresh perspective can be the springboard to a new and exciting direction for your life.

You’re willingness to change, do away with doubt and become a learner will set the stage for God to do something extraordinary in and through your life.  The steps outlined below for a fresh perspective will prepare you for your divine opportunity, where preparation and timing come together, so you’ll be ready when it comes.

Preparing for change:  gradual, progressive change is generally the most successful.  Real change that is gradually implemented and reinforced with new attitudes, habits, and support structures is a recipe for success.  Once you have identified the changes and new things you want to embrace and implement, it’s time to get specific about identifying the old things you need to let go of and leave behind.  Surround yourself with peers and mentors who will hold you accountable and support you through the process.

Becoming a learner:  life isn’t about perfection, it’s a journey and a process.  The best way to navigate the journey of life is to release yourself to be a “leaner”.  With the attitude of a leaner, the various ideas and opportunities you dive into are occasions to get first-hand feedback.  Some of your feedback will encourage you to keep moving forward, and some will lead you to do some tweaking before continuing, while other feedback will necessitate a change of course.  Even changing course isn’t failing; it’s simply a course correction based on what you learned from the experience and the new information you’ve gathered.

Dealing with doubt:  doubt often threatens to take over when you question your “qualifications”.   Remind yourself daily of this truth: God is the one who calls you and qualifies you, and your life experience is part of that qualifying.  Remove any and all doubts by questioning and examining your thoughts to determine if they are fiery darts, self-doubts or fears that need to be taken captive.  Do not give them a place in your life if they are not truth from God.

Some good news:  any new endeavor is like being at the bottom of a dip with a learning curve ahead of you.  This is good because you are free to try out new and different ideas since you have nothing to loose when you’re at the bottom.  And it’s precisely those new and different things that can set you apart.  People already at the top often get comfortable and loose their edge, so while they’re cruising along you might just change the game with something new and innovative that is God-inspired as part of your life purpose and calling.

Spiritual Perspective:  Here’s a fresh perspective from *Psalm 33:18, “But the LORD looks with favor on those who respect him. He watches over those who put their hope in his faithful love.”  God is watching over you as you partner with Him to live out His plan for your life.  You don’t need permission to start living on purpose.  It is God who has gifted you and designed you to live as a person of value and purpose.  He will guide you and give you success.  Permission has been granted to live on purpose so what are you waiting for?

Renew, Refresh and Refocus: What truth will you use to resist doubt and fear?  Who can you enlist to support you in your progressive changes?  What life qualifications will give you the courage to keep you moving forward?
