3 Keys for Using the Stories of Your Life

Stories are a great way to communicate in a memorable way.  Much of our knowledge of ancient history is due to story telling and the fact that those stories were passed down to each generation.

In fact, one of my twitter friends regularly tweets gems of insight and humor from his mother and calls them “My Yiddish Mom”.  I look forward to them and always enjoy these precious tweets in honor of his 90-year-old mom.  While I’ve never met her, I very much feel a connection with her through her son’s tweets – technology is amazing!

This is such a powerful lesson for leaders and influencers to remember.  It’s also a great way to communicate important life lessons to our children – the most important people we will ever lead.  There are 3 keys to using our life stories for maximum benefit as follows:

Learning from our life stories.  Make an effort to recognize points of growth and develop an awareness and appreciation for the lessons learned – both good and bad.  Consider what you might have done differently and what you would do in the future if faced with a similar situation.

Leading others using our life stories.  Our life experiences can be used in work situations to allow others to get to know us and as a way to encourage and connect with those whom we lead or mentor.  Authentic leaders recognize the power and value of sharing from their own life as they lead others.

Legacy building takes place through our life stories.  Sharing with our children and others whom we influence is a great way to share our faith, points of personal growth and wisdom, which can to be passed on to future generations.  It is a way to leave something of value behind for others to remember us by.

Spiritual perspective: God will use the history of your life to tell His-story through you.  And His story is always one of redemption and love.  As you look back over the course of your life, it becomes apparent how events, both good and the bad, have been used to work something of His greater purpose in and through you.  It also allows you to serve others more compassionately and share your knowledge from a real place of authenticity.

It’s not too late to put your life lessons to work in a powerful way!  Now connect your values, passion and purpose so you can lead yourself and leave a legacy that makes an impact.  I can help you get on the right track.  Don’t put it off any longer; take action now let’s work together to pursue your dreams!

How have you been able to use stories from your life to communicate life lessons that benefit and encourage others?  Do you know someone whose life story impacted you and help you to grow and learn even though you did not experience the situation first hand?  Your comments are welcomed and encouraged.

These are wonderful keys to remember. We never know which direction our story will take us, nor can we know who it will benefit in the long run.

I know that its a wonderful reminder to know that "we are not alone" in certain situations.

Thanks for how you are leading the way!
