The Delight of Discovery

Have you ever had the experience of discovering something for the second time?  In many cases it can be as exciting as the first time you discovered it.  Sometimes things in your life can get tucked away and end up stuck in the back of a drawer of your life.  I have first hand experience with things that I’ve lost track of and the disappointment of the lost time when I could have been using and enjoying it in my life.

When it comes to your gifts, talents and life purpose, you cannot afford for those things to end up stuck in the back of a drawer out of sight and out of mind!   Here are just a few of the benefits of discovery:

Discovery provides direction.  Once you discover and understand the most satisfying, effective and productive way to use your gifts, you’ll be able to see where and how you’d like to focus them.  It will be a relief to see clearly the best way to direct your time, as you maximize your gifts and talents, both professionally and personally.

Discovery facilitates development.  When you understand fully what your gifts are, and you know the direction your want to focus on with them, you’ll be able to engage in activities that will help you grow and further develop your gifts.  You’ll also be able to identify the right mentors to surround yourself with.

Discovery inspires dreams.  When you understand how your unique gifts, strengths and temperament fit into God’s plan for your life, it’s fun to dream big.  This new information will help you in regard to how to best manage your unique gifts and strengths in order to fulfill your life purpose and that is something to get excited and dream about.

Discovery recognizes divine design.  Often as you look back on your life you’ll see the clues to how God had uniquely gifted you going all the way back to your childhood.  Even those challenging times of growth and refinement have served to give you a specific passion that will become the primary focus of your gifts and talents.  And when you combine them, your sense of mission and purpose will be profoundly motivating as you recognize that God has designed your life for this specific time in history.

Discovery confirms destiny.  You are not here by accident.  You may have been unplanned by your parents, but you are not a mistake.  Your life has great value and you have the potential to impact the lives of future generations as you faithfully use your gifts to pursue the dreams that God has placed within you.  God has a special plan and purpose for your life and it is His will for you to discover it.

Spiritual perspective:  As you follow the Lord and His ways, you will discover His wisdom for your life.  Proverbs 8:12* says it like this, “I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment.”  With God’s wisdom to guide you in your discovery process, you’ll have the knowledge as to how, when and where to spend your gifts, time, and resources in the most satisfying, God-glorifying way.

Don’t let your life purpose and gifts be stuck in the back of a drawer, or wait to get around to discovering them “some day”.   When will “some day” come, and why not start planning for those things now?  YOU can discover your divine purpose and destiny – find out how now!

Renew, Refresh and Refocus:  How would your life change if you had a clear understanding of your gifts and life purpose?  What impact would that discovery have on how you spend your time and what your resources to?  What would you do differently if you knew that living out your destiny could change other people’s lives for the better?
